Your Roadmap to Europe
Step-by-step guide to securing your visa for France
Critical Warning / Action Required
CRITICAL PAKISTAN SPECIFIC: France uses a dedicated platform called 'Études en France' (EEF). You CANNOT apply for a visa directly. You must first go through the 'Campus France Pakistan' academic interview procedure. Additionally, visa appointments in Pakistan are often managed by 'AEG Travel Services', not just VFS Global.
1. Research & Standardization Tests
Month 1-2 (Oct - Dec)
Duration: 4-8 Weeks
Status: Preparation
- Choose your track: 'Public University' (Low cost) or 'Private Grande École' (Higher cost).
- Check if your university is 'Connected' to Campus France (most are).
- Book and appear for IELTS Academic (Required for 95% of English programs).
- Prepare CV and Motivation Letter according to French standards (no flowery language).
Critical Points:
- ielts requirement: 6.0 - 6.5 Bands (No band less than 5.5 usually)
- language barrier: If applying for public unis in French, you need DELF B2. For English programs, no French is required for admission, but A1 is recommended for survival.
2. Études en France (EEF) Application
Month 3-5 (Dec - Feb)
Duration: 8-12 Weeks
Status: Mandatory Platform
- Create account on 'Études en France' (EEF) portal.
- Track A ('Je suis candidat'): If applying to public universities, submit one common application here (Deadline usually mid-Dec/Jan).
- Track B ('Je suis accepté'): If you applied directly to a private school and got an offer letter, upload it here to start the visa process.
- Pay the Campus France Processing Fee.
Critical Points:
- fee: PKR 30,000 (Non-refundable)
- deadlines: Public Universities (DAP) close early (~Dec 15). Private schools are rolling.
3. The Academic Interview (Campus France)
Month 5-6 (March - May)
Duration: 1 Day (Preparation required)
Status: Selection Barrier
- Once EEF file is validated, you will be summoned for an interview at a Campus France center (Islamabad, Lahore, or Karachi) or online.
- Bring original documents.
- Answer questions: 'Why France?', 'Why this city?', 'How does this degree fit your career in Pakistan?'.
- Outcome: If successful, you receive a 'Certificate of Enrollment' (Accord Préalable) on the portal.
Critical Points:
- importance: The Visa Officer heavily relies on the interview notes from this stage. If you fail here, your visa is almost certainly rejected.
- dress code: Formal/Business Casual.
4. Document Attestation & Financials
Month 6-7 (May - June)
Duration: 4-6 Weeks
Status: Bureaucracy
- Matric/Inter: IBCC Attestation.
- Degrees: HEC Attestation.
- MOFA Attestation: Mandatory for all educational docs.
- Sponsorship: Prepare an affidavit from your sponsor (Father/Uncle) + 6 months bank statement.
Critical Points:
- financial requirement: €615/month x 12 months = ~€7,380 (Min. closing balance). Recommended to show €10,000+ equivalent.
- translations: If documents are in Urdu, get them translated by Alliance Française or a sworn translator.
5. Accommodation Proof
Month 7 (June/July)
Duration: 1-3 Weeks
Status: Critical for Visa
- You CANNOT apply for a visa without a French address.
- Option A: CROUS (University Dorm) - Hard to get.
- Option B: Private Student Housing (Studapart, LivinFrance) - Pay deposit to book.
- Option C: 'Attestation d'hébergement' (Friend/Relative in France writes a letter hosting you).
Critical Points:
- risk: Hotel bookings are often rejected for long-term student visas. Secure a lease or a hostel contract for at least the first 3 months.
6. Visa Appointment & Submission
Month 8 (July/August)
Duration: 2-4 Weeks
Status: Embassy Phase
- Fill form on 'France-Visas' website to generate the checklist.
- Book appointment via AEG Travel Services (or VFS Global depending on current contract - verify locally).
- Submit file: Passport + EEF Certificate + Financials + Housing + MOFA docs.
- Biometrics are taken.
Critical Points:
- processing time: 15 to 45 days (Peak season is slower).
- interview: You might be called for a second interview at the Embassy, but usually, the Campus France interview (Step 3) suffices.
7. Arrival & OFII Validation
Month 9 (September)
Duration: First 3 Months in France
Status: Residency Validation
- Arrive in France.
- Validate your VLS-TS visa online on the OFII (Office Français de l'Immigration et de l'Intégration) website.
- Pay the tourist tax (~€50).
- Register for Social Security (Ameli.fr) - It is free for students.
Critical Points:
- warning: If you don't validate your visa within 3 months, you become an illegal resident.
